The Science Behind Our Calculators

We use three well-known formulas to estimate your calorie needs:

  • Mifflin-St Jeor — The most widely recommended formula for estimating basal metabolic rate (BMR). It uses your age, weight, height, and gender.
  • Harris-Benedict — One of the oldest and most cited BMR equations, updated in 1984 for better accuracy.
  • Katch-McArdle — Best for people who know their body fat percentage. It uses lean body mass for a more precise result.

Your BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate your total daily calorie burn.
